Tractor-trailer accident brings grief to Texas school community

Injuries suffered in automobile accidents can be life-changing, and in some cases, those injuries can be life-ending. When a motor vehicle accident includes a tractor-trailer, the chances of critical or fatal injuries increase. Texas is no stranger to 18-wheeler accidents, and a recent crash demonstrates the potential for tragedy that such accidents present.

Late one evening, a bus carrying 32 members of a local high school track team was returning from a meet. For unknown reasons, a tractor-trailer driven by a 50-year-old man crossed the center line into the path of the bus. The bus driver swerved to avoid a collision, but the truck hit the bus; it toppled onto its side. The truck then crashed head-on into a car that was following the bus and was driven by the assistant coach for the girls' track team. She died at the scene.

In the chaos that followed, 18 injured students and two coaches were rushed to nearby hospitals. The coach driving the bus was also critically injured. The driver of the truck died at the scene.

Those who lose loved ones in these tragic accidents may feel they have nowhere to turn to obtain compensation for their loss, especially when the truck driver does not survive the crash. Fortunately, there are personal injury attorneys in Texas who understand the impact of 18-wheeler accidents on the lives of innocent victims and their families. Depending on the circumstances, victims may be able to seek compensation from the trucking company and/or the estate of the driver.
