Texas semi accident leaves many injured

Most law enforcement agencies have seen more than their fair share of tractor-trailer accidents. Unfortunately, such accidents seem to be happening with more frequency despite increasing federal safety regulations for the trucking industry. The tragic fact is that many 18-wheeler accidents that result in catastrophic injuries and fatalities are often preventable. A recent accident in Texas is still under investigation, but it contains familiar factors.

The accident occurred Monday morning when a tractor-trailer operator failed to brake as traffic slowed down for a construction zone. The truck rammed into the back of several passenger cars, causing a chain reaction. The truck then tipped over and clipped a dump truck, which was then propelled into another vehicle.

Altogether, seven vehicles were involved in the accident. One victim was taken by helicopter to a medical facility, and six other victims were transported to hospitals by ambulance. Their injuries and conditions are unknown. The highway was closed for several hours. Although the investigation is ongoing, when a vehicle fails to stop for changing traffic conditions, there are many possible reasons, including driver distraction, illness, fatigue or impaired driving.

Victims of 18-wheeler accidents often suffer life-changing injuries. In addition, the families of those who lose their lives must cope without their loved ones. Finding some support and assistance is often comforting to those struggling with the aftermath of such accidents. A personal injury attorney in Texas can offer options for seeking compensation, not only for financial relief, but also to send a message to truckers and trucking companies responsible for such tragedies.
