18-wheeler accident claims life of Texas worker

Even in ideal weather conditions, caution on the road is the best practice. This may be especially true for drivers of 18-wheelers and other big trucks. Any changes in conditions may increase the chances of a crash, and tractor-trailer accidents tend to have catastrophic results. Recently, a Texas man died after a series of accidents on the interstate placed him in harm's way.

There had been no snow or ice that morning, only some rain. The roads were wet, and some vehicles hydroplaned in the water. That morning, no fewer than five accidents had occurred at the same spot along the highway. All of the accidents involved tractor-trailers. A road crew was in the median examining the damage along the interstate when the unthinkable occurred.

A tractor-trailer began to skid and jackknifed as it approached the area where the workers were standing. Unable to get out of the way, one worker was struck by the out-of-control rig. He died at the scene from his injuries.

Although the posted speed limit in the area is 65 mph, slowing down in adverse weather conditions is a responsible reaction. Investigators often find that excessive speed contributes to serious accidents. When this happens, the families of the victims may be understandably emotional to think that their loved one died from a preventable accident. Seeking the counsel of a Texas attorney may be one way to find answers to their questions and advice for the best steps to take in pursuing potential compensation for their loss.
